Construction Cost Estimator

Department: NYPC-NYC
Location: New York, NY

VHB is GROWING! The New York, NY office is seeking a Construction Cost Estimator to join their Civil Engineering group. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope. Responsibilities

  • Work directly with project managers and engineers to develop construction cost estimates for major capital projects in excess of $1B including fixed guideway, heavy civil and bridge work.
  • Utilize heavy construction civil/structural documents and published reference material to identify items of work, perform take-offs, develop estimates, and document backup
  • Develop client-based specifications
  • Prepare Primavera construction schedules

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Associates Degree in Engineering (AAS) with concentration in Civil/Structural Engineering Technology or NICET III Certification
  • Ability to read/understand bridge/heavy construction contract plans
  • Horizontal construction estimating experience is required.
  • Experience with NYC and NY state transportation agencies including NYSDOT, PANYNJ, NYCDOT, and MTA is preferred.
  • Experience estimating in FTA SCC format is preferred.
  • Candidate should possess 10+ years of experience and be proficient in the use of HCSS Heavy Bid estimating software.
  • Must be detail oriented, well-spoken, able to work independently, and a self-starter
  • Familiarity and proficiency with RSMeans Estimating Publications (Hardcopy or Computer Based)
  • MicroStation, AutoCAD, MS Office, and Primavera experience and general computer skills a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate fluently with colleagues and clients
