Transportation/Traffic Engineer

Location: New York, NY

VHB’s growing New York City team is looking for a mid-level Transportation/Traffic Engineer to join our Transportation group. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope. Our group is working on some of the most important projects in the New York area for both public and private sector clients.   • Working within a team of professionals in developing traffic and transportation planning and engineering solutions for a multitude of transportation (roadway & transit) projects
  • Transit and transportation planning analyses
  • Development, analysis, and evaluation of traffic improvements
  • General traffic and safety studies
  • Design of traffic control devices
  • Work zone traffic control
  • Intersection and roadway level of service analyses
  • Traffic simulation
  • Roadway and intersection design
  • Transportation impact studies
  • Prepare written planning documents, summarize information collected by others, and assemble reports
  • Develop proposals, scopes of work, and budgets for proposed work
  • Project management or serve as a task leader on small to mid-size projects

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to take on significant responsibilities
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to think critically
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Advanced knowledge MS Excel & VBA a plus
  • Excel in working in a team environment


  • BS in Civil Engineering or related field (MS degree preferred)
  • 4+ years of professional transportation engineering/planning experience
  • Extensive experience with HCS and Synchro (VISSIM/Aimsun desired)
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation desired
  • PE license preferred
