Survey Crew Chief

Department: NYPC-NYC
Location: New York, NY

VHB is seeking a Survey Crew Chief/Senior Tech to join our New York, NY office. VHB’s passionate professionals include engineers, surveyors, scientists, planners, and designers who partner with public and private clients in the transportation, real estate, institutional, and energy industries, as well as federal, state, and local governments.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct the activities of a survey crew
  • Maintain proper care of survey equipment
  • Maintain documentation of all phases of survey work
  • Perform public records research
  • Conduct all types of surveys (e.g. topographic, boundary, as-built, construction, and laser scanning)
  • Process all types of survey data in the office

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in the operation of GPS, Robotic Instruments, and laser scanners
  • Proficient in field survey methods and techniques specific to New York City
  • Proficient office processing software (StarNet, Cyclone, Scene)
  • Proficient with CAD software (Civil3d, MicroStation, Carlson)
  • Ability to conduct tasks independently and to assign and review the work of others
  • Able to think critically and focus on detail

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma and a minimum of five years of prior experience with progressive land surveying 
  • Associate degree in Land Surveying/Engineering or related field preferred, but not required
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Must be willing to travel for assignments outside the local area
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs
  • Willing to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements
  • We do not currently provide sponsorship for employment visas
