Environmental Planner

Department: Atlanta
Location: Atlanta, GA

VHB has an immediate need for an Environmental Planner in our Atlanta, GA office. The successful candidate will have 2 to 5 years of professional experience in consulting in the transportation and environmental field with the completion of environmental projects for State and Federal agencies. Extra consideration will be given to those candidates with experience with the Georgia Department of Transportation or with high-profile projects for other agencies. In addition to supporting transportation and environmental planning projects the Environmental Planner will also be responsible for assisting in the management of deliverables across disciplines.

Responsibilities:

  • Support multi-disciplinary environmental projects in transportation
  • Assist with tracking project deliverable progress utilizing multiple systems
  • Assist with coordinating project completion across teams
  • Review and prepare National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and/or Georgia Environmental Policy Act (GEPA) documentation
  • Assist clients with the administration of NEPA processes
  • Conduct environmental planning analyses, including using GIS to conduct mapping
  • Independently perform research and prepare written technical reports
  • Coordinate and communicate with internal and external project team members

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and set priorities
  • Team-oriented with strong capability to motivate others
  • Must demonstrate a capacity for collaborative problem-solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter
  • Must be detail oriented

Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate will have between 2 and 5 years of environmental planning experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant environmental discipline (environmental science, environmental biology, ecology, wildlife management, cultural resources, NEPA, and related disciplines)
  • Experience with NEPA Regulations, state of GA rules and regulations (including Buffer Variance Regulations), Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, Endangered Species Act, National Historic Preservation Act
