Railroad Operations Analyst

Department: MA-Transit & Rail
Location: Boston, MA

VHB’s growing Boston, MA team is looking for an entry level railroad operations analyst to join our Transit and Rail Operations and Simulation team in Boston.

VHB’s passionate professionals include engineers, scientists, planners, and designers who partner with public and private clients in the transportation, real estate, institutional, and energy industries, as well as federal, state, and local governments.

Together, we work to improve mobility, enhance communities and economic vitality, and balance development and infrastructure needs with environmental stewardship.

Responsibilities

  • Perform operations analysis and simulations tasks on a variety of Transit and Rail projects.
  • Prepare technical reports for operational evaluations.
  • Support development of railroad signal block layouts and aspects.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively in a multi-discipline team environment.

Skills and Abilities

  • Interest in transportation planning and engineering with a focus on railroad operations and logistics.
  • Familiarity with operations modeling software Rail Traffic Controller (RTC) is a plus
  • Strong and creative problem-solving skills.
  • A familiarity with geometrics and civil design and a solid understanding of design processes) is a plus. 
  • Working knowledge of all applications within the Microsoft Office software group.
  • Ability to create or revise electronic drawings using AutoCAD and/or Microstation CAD programs.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively on teams and a desire to grow professionally as a technical expert.

Qualifications:

• Minimum 0-5 years’ experience in transit/transportation planning, operations, and engineering

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or in a related field such as Transportation Planning
