Water Resources Engineer

Department: New Hampshire
Location: Bedford, NH

VHBs Bedford, NH office is seeking a Water Resources Engineer to join our growing Environmental team.

VHBs passionate professionals include engineers, scientists, planners, and designers who partner with public and private clients in the transportation, real estate, institutional, and energy industries, as well as federal, state, and local governments.

Together, we work to improve mobility, enhance communities and economic vitality, and balance development and infrastructure needs with environmental stewardship.


  • Work within a team of professionals in developing engineering plans and specifications for a multitude of environmental and water resource projects, especially related to stormwater, environmental restoration, and hydrology and hydraulics
  • Prepare and review drawings and specifications
  • Prepare conceptual design, final design, and construction contract documentation
  • Technical and design report writing
  • Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss engineering design/permitting issues
  • Responsible for quality of work output
  • Responsible for project task management including task financial performance

Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with attention to details and ability to think critically. Must be able to work independently and as a part of project teams
  • Experience/proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, HydroCAD, StormCAD, SWMM, HEC-RAS, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Understanding of NH Department of Environmental Services water resource and alteration of terrain permitting processes


  • BS in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of professional water resources engineering experience
  • PE certification
  • Knowledge of and experience in stormwater/watershed modeling analysis and design; stormwater BMP design, including LID; stream and wetland restoration; and hydrological and hydraulic analysis including channel design, floodplain analysis, and scour analysis
  • Experience in hydraulic and hydrologic modeling is required; training and experience in fluvial geomorphology/natural channel design is highly desirable as well as with EPAs SWMM Model for urban stormwater drain system modeling
  • Experience with specifying erosion control measures and construction observation highly desirable
  • Experience preparing plans and reports
  • GIS, ArcGIS and graphic software experience a plus
