Senior Roadway Design Engineer

Department: Charlotte, NC
Location: Charlotte , NC

VHB’s growing Charlotte, NC team is looking for a Senior Roadway Design Engineer to join our Transportation group. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope.   • Provide technical knowledge and perform engineering design tasks for roadway projects from concept development to final design
  • Develop plans, specifications, cost estimates, reports, and prepare final bid packages
  • Participate in project decisions regarding project scoping and budgeting, developing technical approaches, and monitoring cost and schedule performance
  • Manage and mentor junior staff on project assignments Manage schedules, design process and provide quality assurance and quality control for roadway design projects
  • Assist with development and implementation of our strategy for serving the transportation market in Charlotte
  • Serve as Project Manager on select transportation projects
  • Contribute to external visibility efforts
  • Represent VHB at conferences, seminars and industry events
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations
  • Participate in marketing and business development for our transportation planning and design services

Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be knowledgeable in transportation services for public sectors. Existing relationships and contacts at NCDOT are a plus
  • Must be proficient with MicroStation, GeoPak, Corridor Modeler and Microsoft Office
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills Excellent attention to detail
  • Enthusiasm for learning and the ability to take on responsibility
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills, including ability to mentor staff Must demonstrate superior ability in collaborative problem solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates
  • Experience in managing other staff members

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or other related field
  • Minimum 7 + years’ experience in transportation engineering
  • Previous experience working with NCDOT preferred
  • NC P.E. license
