New England Energy Market Leader

Department: Vermont
Location: South Burlington, VT

VHBs growing New England Environmental practice is seeking an experienced Energy Market Leader for our South Burlington, VT office. The ideal candidate will have previous experience managing complex permitting and licensing efforts associated with energy-related projects in New England, such as power generation, electric transmission/distribution, natural gas transmission/distribution, and renewable energy generation. Additionally, the candidate must have a proven ability foster positive relationships with staff, clients, regulatory agencies and sub-consultants.

VHBs passionate professionals include engineers, scientists, planners, and designers who partner with public and private clients in the transportation, real estate, institutional, and energy industries, as well as federal, state, and local governments.

Together, we work to improve mobility, enhance communities and economic vitality, and balance development and infrastructure needs with environmental stewardship.


  • Understand major energy market drivers in New England, including policy, political, and societal drivers which have significant implications to the business
  • Maintain relationships in the areas of energy innovation and technology, including battery storage, microgrids, efficiency and distributed generation, and utilizing this understanding to share key strategic insights and identify potential business opportunities for VHB
  • Work with regional VHB energy teams in the context of major utility and renewables clients to identify and assist in implementing strategies for growth, including building VHBs integrated services offerings
  • Work to maintain and enhance VHBs visibility in the energy sector in New England through participation in regional conferences and symposia
  • Develop and implement overall permitting strategy and approach for environmental aspects of complex projects
  • Manage project teams responsible for supporting the environmental permitting and licensing, engineering, and construction compliance phases of projects in the energy market
  • Perform project management responsibilities, including project scope development, cost estimation, staff resource identification, implementation oversight, budget tracking, quality control and completion of administrative requirements

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Highly motivated with a client-oriented focus
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects
  • Strong organizational and tracking skills


  • BS in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or related field; MS preferred
  • 15+ years of professional environmental compliance consulting experience
  • Client management experience required
  • Relevant environmental project management experience required
  • Knowledge of state and federal wetland regulations, endangered species environmental regulations, and environmental permitting required
