Civil Transportation Engineer

Department: VA - Washington D.C.
Location: Washington DC, DC

VHB is growing and has an opportunity for a Civil/Transportation Engineer with 8-12 years of experience to join our team in our Washington, DC office. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope.   • Provide technical knowledge for transportation activities in VHB’s Washington, DC office
  • Manage schedules, design process, and quality control for various transportation projects
  • Producing and delivering transportation projects from design through construction administration
  • Provide roadway/site design, cost estimating, geometric layout, grading and drainage, utility coordination, and environmental permitting
  • Preparation of permit and design plans adhering to local, state, and county specifications
  • Managing the development of technical design and specification documents
  • Facilitate public presentations

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledgeable in transportation for both public and private sectors
  • Experience in both engineering design and construction management
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills, including the ability to mentor staff
  • Demonstrate superior ability in collaborative problem solving with clients and teammates
  • Ability to manage complex multi-discipline projects


  • The successful candidate will have 8-12 years of relevant experience in transportation engineering
  • Candidate must have a Bachelors degree in civil engineering or a related field
  • P.E. license with ability to obtain in DC, VA, and MD
  • Experience with AutoCAD and willingness to learn MicroStation platform
