Transportation Planner/Engineer

Department: Vermont
Location: South Burlington, VT

VHB’s growing South Burlington, VT office is looking for an enthusiastic, highly organized Transportation Planner/Engineer to join our experienced team of planners, engineers, and scientists. The selected candidate will work with a team of planners, scientists, and engineers on a variety of public, private and institutional projects throughout Vermont. Responsibilities

  • Serve as the task manager or technical lead on planning and design of transportation projects, conducting alternatives analyses, scoping studies, traffic impact studies, multimodal planning and engineering, and transportation/traffic design projects as well as stakeholder engagement and public participation
  • Work with a team of professionals in a variety of transportation-related areas to develop mobility solutions which consider all users integrating Complete Street concepts within urban and suburban communities
  • Conduct multi-modal transportation analysesPrepare traffic impact, corridor and intersection improvement studiesConduct research, prepare reports, and present findings and results to clients
  • Conduct safety evaluations and develop crash diagrams
  • Design of traffic control devices and construction-phase traffic management plans

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to perform a wide range of transportation planning and engineering tasks
  • Strong oral presentation, communication, and teamwork skills are essential
  • Team oriented with strong capability to work independently
  • Motivated to lead and mentor others
  • Ability to think critically and strategically

Qualifications:

  • BS in Civil Engineering or related field
  • 4+ years of prfoessional civil/transportation engineering or transportation planning experience
  • Synchro/SimTraffic experience required
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Highway Capacity Manual, the AASHTO Green Book, and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
  • Experience with PTV VISSIM, TransCAD, and Transmodeler a plus
  • Experience with MicroStation, InRoads, and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D is highly desirable
  • Licensed Professional Engineer preferable
