Survey Crew Chief

Department: VA-Williamsburg
Location: Williamsburg, VA

VHB’s Williamsburg, VA team is looking for a Survey Crew Chief to join our office for full-time employment. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a dynamic team, across diverse disciplines, giving you exposure to a wide variety of projects in size and scope. Responsibilities:

  • Direct the activities of a survey crew in the performance of Boundary/ALTA survey, Topographic survey, construction, and post-construction surveys
  • Maintain proper care of survey equipment
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements
  • Maintain documentation of all phases of survey work
  • Perform public records research
  • Use public records in the execution of Boundary/ALTA survey field work

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in reading and understanding architectural and engineering drawings
  • Proficient in the operation of total station with electronic data collecting capability
  • Proficient in the operation of GPS equipment
  • Proficient in field survey methods and techniques
  • Ability to perform tasks independently and to assign and review the work of others
  • Detail-oriented
  • Able to think critically
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry
  • Team oriented with strong capability to work independently
  • Motivated to lead and mentor others

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma and a minimum of 3 years progressive Land Surveying experience, Associates degree preferred
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Must be able to pass DoD security screening
  • Must be willing to travel for assignments outside the local area
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
