Senior Structural Engineer - Transit & Rail Stations

Department: MA-Transportation
Location: Watertown, MA

VHB's Watertown, MA office is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Structures group and work on projects for our growing building design practice.

In this position, you would serve an important lead role in the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of commuter rail and transit stations as well as other transportation-related buildings. The ideal candidate should possess a “can-do” attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to work independently as well as with a team in a dynamic, fast-paced, and fun environment. The position includes opportunities for personal and professional development and growth in VHB’s headquarter office.

Responsibilities

  • Preliminary and final design of building-focused transportation projects
  • Task management
  • Staff mentoring/development/technical oversight
  • Some project management and business development efforts

Skills and Abilities

  • Must possess strong technical skills
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proactive and self-motived, with excellent attention to detail
  • Enthusiasm to learn, seek out opportunities, and take responsibility
  • Motivated to mentor junior staff
  • Past business development success and industry relationships a plus

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, MSCE preferred
  • 10-15 years of progressively responsible experience in the analysis and design of transportation-related buildings and facilities
  • Licensed professional engineer in the State of Massachusetts required, Structural PE a strong plus
  • Proficient in the use of structural engineering and BIM software such as STAAD.pro, RAM Steel, Tekla, LARSA, MathCAD, Revit, and AutoCAD
  • Demonstrated success in completing structural designs and developing contract plans in conformance with accepted engineering standards and procedures for public and private clients such as the MBTA
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
