Program/Project Manager

Department: NYPC-NYC
Location: New York, NY

VHB is seeking experienced Program/Project Manager to join our expanding Energy practice in the Northeast. The successful candidate will have professional experience in the management of multi-discipline construction projects within the energy and utility industry. Projects will be located throughout New York State. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the management power generation station and transmission system upgrades that include Mechanical/Electrical, Communications and Controls systems, as well as civil, structural and architectural upgrades on some of the most prestigious and strategically important power generation assets in North America.

Responsibilities: 

The Program/Project Manager oversees and manages all aspects of project management services.

Works with the VHB project executives and clients to clearly establish and communicate the project management teams scope of services as well as project understanding and client expectations.

Establish and deploy the necessary project management tools and infrastructure on the projects to facilitate the provision effective and efficient project management including the development of a Project Execution Plan consistent with project scope and client and VHB expectations.

Manage, guide and supervise the performance of the overall Project Management Team as well as all persons on the on the Team.

Plans and organizes the work to provide for the continuous delivery of services required on the projects and to meet or exceed clients and VHB project executive expectations.

Manages the organization’s day-to-day activities required to perform the work and deliver the services required on the projects.

The Project Manager is responsible for and will review, approve, and authorize the release of all project deliverables being issued by the project management team.

The Project Manager will act as the Owners representative and as part of the services provided by the team, will author all correspondence on behalf of relating to the project as directed by the client.

The Project Manager shall work closely with the Owners Project Manager on all issues related to the project.

The PM directs and coordinates all key staff persons in their work effort as well as lending support to resolve special problems on the project.

The PM reports to the Owner Project Manager for project activities, and internally to the VHB project executive.

Communicates with clients, contractors, and vendors concerning project activities cost, staffing, and scheduling as authorized to and on behalf of the client.

Prepares project status reports and works to ensure deliverables adhere to contract requirements.

Performs continuous assessments of the overall health of the program in terms of Cost, Schedule and Earned Value as well as Quality and Safety performance and provides periodic reports to the Owner.

Reports areas of concerns or potential risk areas or issues to the Owner and makes recommendations to redress such areas and/or mitigate potential risk exposure associated with such observations.

Prepare reports, budget summaries and schedules for the client and VHB management as necessary to communicate project status and work activities.

  • Strong proven team leadership skills
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems
  • Effective manager providing requisite clarity and focus for continuous efficient progress 
  • Ability to work well in team-oriented structure 
  • Ability to travel to project sites and possibly from time-to-time reside in the project area as required to support the project
  • Large multi-stakeholder complex project experience a plus
  • Executive level reporting experience a plus

Qualifications:  

  • BS in Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent
  • 10+ years of experience managing engineering and construction tasks and projects
  • PE/PMP certification
  • Contract Negotiations and Contract Administration experience required
  • Stakeholder interface management experience required
  • Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP), not required but a plus
  • Proof of OSHA 30-Hour safety course within the last 3 years
  • Valid Driver’s License and good driving record
